Dear Avengers and Iron Man movieverse fandom,
I’ve noticed there’s fanfic in which poor Rhodey has been demoted three whole ranks. Here are some facts that may prove helpful when writing:
1) He is Lieutenant COLONEL James Rhodes.
2) He is addressed as “Colonel” or “Lieutenant Colonel” in conversation.
3) His pay grade is O-5.
4) Lieutenant Colonel is ranked above a Major (O-4) and below a full-bird Colonel (O-6).
5) Steve would salute Rhodey and Rhodey would return the salute, not the other way around. A Captain (O-3) is two ranks below a Lt Col.
5a) But Rhodey MAY salute Steve first, out of respect.
6) Rhodey is NOT a Lieutenant, which is one of the two LOWEST commissioned officer ranks in the Air Force, 2nd LT (O-1) and 1st LT (O-2).
7) His insignia is a silver oak leaf (or a black oak leaf if wearing desert cammo).
8) Based on his rank, he’s served approximately 10 to 16 years in the Air Force.
9) He was Air Force ROTC at MIT. (It’s implied, anyway, since Tony talks about them going on Spring Break together.)
Handy stuff to know!
And Carol Danvers /is/ a full-bird Colonel, so she ranks both Steve /and/ Rhodey.
THEY HAVE THE ACE ATTORNEY OFFICIAL MANGA IN MY LAW LIBRARY I AM CRYING.
Your honor, something is amiss here!
As you are probably aware, library materials are labeled with barcodes as well as a number to determine their location on the shelf, as per the Dewey Decimal System. The books just to the left of the manga are labeled, as are the DVDs just in view on the lower shelf. Look even further behind these shelves and you’ll see that even those books are labeled!
Ladies and gentlemen of the courtroom, I invite you to take a closer look at the volumes that are, allegedly, part of this law library! Something is missing from the spines, isn’t there?
Where are the bar codes?!
This is a blatant contradiction! The OP is lying— these volumes cannot, therefore, be a part of this library at all! I propose that they simply brought these materials in for the sake of the joke!!
Only focusing on one aspect and not the whole of the issue, are we, Mr. Wright? Typical.
Your honor, if you bring your attention to the books just left of the manga, you’ll notice there’s a book (the second to the left) that also does not have a bar code.
If you examine the picture even closer—particularly the DVDs below—you’ll see that they bear bar codes, but not on the spines. No, they have them on the back and/or front of the DVDs. Of course, this method of labeling and organizing isn’t limited to products of the film industry alone.
Therefore, I’d like to propose that it is entirely possible that the manga books do, in fact, belong to the library!
Wh-WHAAAAT?! You’re kidding!!
(Shoot, he’s got me there… Better think of something fast! Something about the books that sets them apart from—
…! I’ve got it!)
While that may be true, you’ve also overlooked one critical error: the titles of the books! Whether or not your hypothesis regarding the labeling system is correct, these titles aren’t alphabetized correctly! What kind of self-respecting librarian would misplace such vital books?
While it pains me to have to point out something so obvious, I suppose I’ll make an exception for you, Wright.
Clearly, one look at the titles of the books next to the manga is a tell-all of this certain library’s less-than-stellar organization skills. None of the books are in alphabetical order, I’m afraid.
They could very well be alphabetized by author and not title, but it’s a little difficult to be able to decipher that from this single picture, wouldn’t you say?
Furthermore, the manga books themselves are in numerical order, suggesting some kind of system is in place, albeit not a very good one, if the alphabetizing is off.
At the end of the day, it seems like neither of us can draw a clear conclusion from this evidence alone. Your honor, I strongly suggest a recess in which we could investigate the library itself further.
I see the issue here very clearly.
Due to the uncertain nature of this case, we’ll have to postpone this decision until more decisive evidence can be obtained. The court will now take a 15-minute recess.
(W-wait, but I’m not—)
I’ve got some decisive evidence for you, pal!
We investigated further into the photo. Zooming in, you can see a label on the DVD case to the bottom left.
Photo Close-up added to the court record!
As you can see, pal, you can vaguely see the words “Of Toledo Law Library” on the label!
And, considering possibilities of the rest of that label, “University of Toledo" was the first to come to my mind!
A quick search on the University of Toledo’s Online Law Library Database revealed that there ARE the comics pictured in it!
Miles Edgeworth Ace Attorney Investigations volumes 1-4 and Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney volumes 1-5!
And there’s more!
The section these comics are filed under is the “Law in Popular Culture" Section, which matches up with the titles on the rest of the books on that shelf: "Lowering the Bar: Lawyer Jokes & Legal Culture”, “Prime Time Law”, “Lawyers in Your Living Room!" and "Lex Populi”!
Not only is it in the right section, it’s also a documented part of the Law Library’s database!
How’s that for decisive evidence?
I did a thing
this is the most ridiculous thing I’ve come across in a long time.
I understand the daily hardships that so many people have in a world ruled by white males.
I understand that sometimes this can make it feel as if all white males are the enemy (especially for those who fight for equality).
but posts like this need to stop.
you are not advancing anybodies rights.
you are not promoting anybodies equality.
this is not activism.
this is hate-mongering.
Thanks for the contribution :)
I’ve lost track, am I even allowed an opinion these days? Whatever. How about this radical idea: Let’s treat each other equally, and then we’ll all be equal? All this mindless mud-slinging achieves nothing and only serves to demonstrate how true objectives of those involved (notably NOT equality).
You guys are good at this! :)
this isnt okay and you need to fuckin stop.
Wow. This is…this is why we can’t have nice things, Tumblr.
Yes, there’s a high percentage of white dudebros who are going to act this way. There’s also a number of white males who are allies and equalists. I’m feminist and an equalist, which might not mean anything to some people, and might be fodder for mockery for others, its something I take very seriously. It’s one thing to create a meme like this — which is actually kinda funny — but then when the allies start chiming in trying to create a little headway, responding with the same meme just isn’t funny. It just makes it harder to try and make progress.
And I get it — I really do — but at the same time I don’t get it at all.
If you are genuinely fighting for equality than this shouldn’t bother you. I see no allies, just bitchy little boys demanding to be heard when it isn’t their story. It isn’t about equality. It is about liberation. Man up and shut up. Really and truly if a man believes in and fights for feminism and works hard everyday not to be a douche than this should not bother him. It is making a very legit and fair point. Also it is not your story. Every time a man steps in and bitches all he is doing is derailing. These come from personal stories and moment and struggles. What right do you have to try and speak over these women because your ego got a little bruised?
I genuinely feel for the personal and individual stories. I genuinely feel for the wider, sweeping scope of how women are treated in both the media and social situations. That’s why feminism. That’s why equality. Because then these situations can hopefully be lessened through teaching men — starting with young men — that women are actually people and ought to be treated so. I have to believe I can make a difference or otherwise I’m not creating a better world that my daughter is growing up in.
But then you say that “if a man believes in an fights for feminism and works hard everyday not to be a douche than this should not bother him.” I disagree with that. That everyday, average, bland looking white male face up there? It’s a sweeping generalization of male thought. It could be my face. It could be the face of the guy next to me. Both of us could be thinking the same thing on feminism. Both of us could be thinking radically different thought. That’s why it’s aggravating, because then it simply casts one group into one line of thinking. And yes, the rational line of thinking is that it’s simply just fair to do that. White men have been generalizing other races and genders for years, so it’s just plain fair. But on a personal, individual level, that bothers me because I want to present myself on an individual basis as an ally who helps others. And it’s this line of thinking and presentation that makes it even more difficult to do so.
I’m sorry if you, or any other woman, has had to deal with misogyny or assault or belittling or verbal/physical abuse at the hands of men. I’m not trying to speak over anyone, or say that anyone’s experiences aren’t valid. But yes, it aggravates me to see generalized stereotyping like this when I deeply believe in how each individual presents themselves and is perceived on an individual basis is key. Otherwise we will never make progress socially.
Very well put, CK Burch.
Tumblr doesn’t turn assholes into revolutionaries, it turns assholes into REALLY LOUD ASSHOLES. The person making these memes doesn’t want to tell a story, or change minds…they want to be the center of attention. They don’t want allies, they want an audience. Those people of all sexes, genders, orientations, colors and experiences who are fighting for equality are doing so in spite of these sad trolls who happened to stumble across a meme generator. You don’t want the opinions of white guys who are striving for equality? That’s fine. At the same time, we don’t need your damned permission to do so.
